For anyone looking to downgrade their Gateway MT3418 from Vista to Windows XP

If you want to install Windows XP on your Gateway MT3418 laptop instead of Vista, you can use the drivers from the Gateway MX3417 laptop.  They’re the same machines, only the MT3418 came with Vista and the MX3714 came with XP.   I successfully installed the MX3417 drivers on my MT3418, and XP is running smoothly.

Here’s a link to the driver page on Gateway’s site.

Thank you very much. I installed XP like you said & I am very happy with it. All went very well. The laptop is working like a champ now that XP is on it. None of the problems of VISTA

Thanks a million. I wasted so much time searching for drivers and speaking to clueless Gateway support people. Finally I found this post and was running XP in minutes with all drivers installed.

FYI, Windows 7 works great on this particular machine too. I installed it yesterday, and the only issue was that I had to run Windows Update to get the video card and wireless drivers.

Hi… I’m from Monterrey, in Mexico… it’s difficult to find the drivers, but is possible…

The sm bus controller is in the gateway site for the MX3417… is the D00598-001-001.exe – nVidia nForce4 Chipset Driver version 4.5.0 file… upgrade using the device manager…

For the wireless adapter, try looking for driver of the realtek RTL8185 wireless lan network adapter…

And don’t worry until today i don’t have idea of what driver is the correct to the ‘coprocessor’

The only problem is the sound… i trying everything in XP and Vista and don’t work… i even dismantled the lap and don’t look something wrong with the MoBo…

    Suggestions are welcome…
